The Village of Glen Carbon was part of the original Goshen Settlement - circa 1801. Goshen Township was established in or about 1812 and was later, between 1820 and 1830, divided into five smaller townships: Edwardsville Township (including Glen Carbon), Silver Creek, Big Prairie, Six Mile Prairie and Wood River Townships.
The Village is home to three community parks. Miner Park, a true family picnic area, has a variety of playground equipment, covered pavilions, and beautiful wildlife areas. Citizen Park serves primarily as the Village's sports facility, with lighted baseball diamond, consession stands and bleacher seating. The 5-acre Village Hall Park is the primary sporting and recreational complex within Glen Carbon, with lighted tennis courts and baseball diamond, little folks playground and two covered pavilions. |
